CORONA VIRUS AND IMPORTANCE OF VENTILATION

As we all know, Corona Virus is an air-borne disease. The virus is spread through the air. Due to this managing airflow becomes an important precaution against the virus. Adequate ventilation has been mentioned by the World Health Organisation as one of the preventive measures to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission.

Ventilation is the intentional introduction of fresh air into a space while the stale air is removed. It is done to maintain the quality of air in that space.

Proper ventilation can help reduce airborne contaminants, including viruses, indoors. Social distancing, frequent hand washing, and surface disinfection and ventilation can be part of a plan to protect yourself and your family.

Here are some suggestions to improve the ventilation in your house:

  1. Use a domestic exhaust fan in your bathroom. Keep the exhaust fan switched-on when the bathroom is in use and continuously, if possible. A plastic body exhaust fan is available in 4inches to 10inches in size. You must use the correct size as per your bathroom area.
  2. Use a domestic exhaust fan in your kitchen. Keep the exhaust fan switched-on when the kitchen is in use and continuously, if possible. Usually, a metal body exhaust fan is appropriate for kitchens. They come in sizes varying from 6inches to 12inches in size. Assess the right size based on your kitchen area.
  3. Keep your windows open during the day, if possible. Do not open windows and doors if doing so poses a safety or health risk to children or other family members (e.g., risk of falling or triggering asthma symptoms).
  4. If your rooms are closed and air-conditioned, remember to open the windows when the AC is not operating. If there are no windows, please use an exhaust fan in any vent in the room. If that is not possible, keep the doors open to recirculate the stale air.
  5. Consider using indoor fans in combination with open doors or windows to further increase ventilation. Fans can face toward the window (blowing air out of the window) or away from the window (blowing air into the room).
  6. At home, table or pedestal fans are safe for air circulation among family members living together who are not infected with the virus that causes COVID-19. However, fans should be avoided when people who are not part of the immediate family are visiting, since some people could have the virus despite not having symptoms.
  7. Air blowing from an infected person directly at another in closed spaces may increase the transmission of the virus from one person to another. To help reduce risks of airborne transmission, direct the airflow of the fan so that it does not blow directly from one person to another.
  8. The use of ceiling fans can improve the circulation of outside air and avoid pockets of stagnant air in occupied space. However, it is critical to maintaining good outdoor ventilation when using ceiling fans.  An efficient way to increase outdoor air exchange is by opening windows.

Aeronova provides a wide range of air circulation products like ceiling fans, exhaust fans, table fans, wall fans, pedestal fans, and special fans. Explore here.

Remember to use all other precautions as well, including social distancing, frequent hand washing, surface disinfection, and avoiding crowded areas. Stay safe and stay healthy.
